Liposomal Technology

What is the LIPOSHELL®* liposomal technology?

Research on the liposomal technology has been conducted since the 1960s. It has received the attention and time of many scientists as they have been searching for a method to facilitate delivery of active substances to specific organs/tissues.

There are many ways of transporting substances which are biologically important for the body. However, not all of them ensure high performance and stability of delivered ingredients.

*LIPOSHELL®- the patented technology- international application no PCT/EP2018/057400.

The high quality LIPOSHELL® technology helps to deliver the active substance:

Liposhell ikona

at a correct amount (increased bioavailability),

Liposhell ikona

in an unchanged form (protection against degradation-inducing factors),

Liposhell ikona

to specific organs/tissues (targeted transport).

The key element of the innovative LIPOSHELL® technology are precisely designed LIPOSOMES.

What are LIPOSHELL® liposomes?1,2

Phospholipid bilayer

LIPOSHELL® liposomes are the effect of many years of research of a multidisciplinary team of scientists. LIPOSHELL® liposomes are spherical small carriers of 100-200 nanometers in diameter.

The LIPOSHELL® technology allows to design the sizes of liposomes depending on the intended use (oral formulations: food supplements, drugs; injections; topical application: medical devices).

They are built of lipid bilayer membrane filled with aqueous phase. The lipid membrane of LIPOSHELL® liposomes consists of phospholipids which may interact with both water and lipids.

In the innovative process of LIPOSHELL® liposome creation, natural behavior of phospholipids has been used. They form small vesicles in an aqueous solution under appropriate conditions.

Due to similarity with cell membranes naturally occurring in the body, LIPOSHELL® liposomes are characterized by high structural stability which enables prolonged and stable encapsulation of active substances inside the liposomes.

It is precisely this similarity with biological membranes present in the human body that makes the liposomes non-toxic and biocompatible.

LIPOSHELL® liposomes are the highest quality small carriers characterized by high stability and homogeneous size.

What is the innovation of Liposhell® technology?2,3

Unlike traditional forms of medication, such as tablets, capsules, ointments, creams or drops, LIPOSHELL® liposomes help to maintain long-term stable levels of the active substance in the target area.

The innovative LIPOSHELL® technology means:

  • increased bioavailability of transported substances,
  • effective protection of transported active substances against degradation-inducing factors such as low pH or free radicals presence,
  • optimized dosing,
  • improved treatment efficacy.

Protection against degradation-inducing factors

There are many factors that may adversely affect the quality of active substances and their bioavailability. These include, for example:

  • humidity, oxygen, temperature,
  • digestive enzymes (already present in the mouth), gastric juice, bile salts,
  • medicines taken,
  • intestinal microflora (both beneficial bacteria as well as pathogens).

The LIPOSHELL® liposomal technology protects the active substance against the above factors. The active substance contained in the LIPOSHELL® liposomes is enclosed inside a phospholipid bilayer which ensures its long-term protection and stability.

The highest quality

Thanks to a high content of the highest quality phospholipids, the principal building material of LIPOSHELL® liposomes, and a careful selection of process parameters, the LIPOSHELL® technology is distinguished by innovation and the highest quality. The LIPOSHELL® technology enables encapsulation of a wide spectrum of active substances in the liposomes with homogeneous structure and properties.

Increased bioavailability

Structural similarities between LIPOSHELL® liposomes and biological membranes present in the human body ensure high bioavailability and effective penetration of active substances in the LIPOSHELL® technology inside the cell – targeted area.

How do Liposomes deliver active substances to the cell?1,2

LIPOSHELL® liposomes release the active substance into the cell via endocytosis and adsorption:

Adsorption

The liposome adheres to the cell membrane and releases its content into the cell.

Endocytosis

A process during which the liposome penetrates inside the cell without passing through the cell membrane. The liposome is absorbed by the cell which forms a membrane-limited vesicle (the so-called endosome).

LIPOSHELL® technology – bioengineering and medicine

The LIPOSHELL® technology finds many uses, therefore our development of a new product always starts with an engineering design. This helps us to obtain the optimal structure of the liposome, which later translates into effective transport of the substance to the target site of action.

The next step involves verification of engineering design in laboratory models, and then – in studies to confirm the efficacy of the new solution. Afterwards, the final liposomal form of the selected active substance goes into final production.

The LIPOSHELL® technology products are manufactured in compliance with the high quality standards, using innovative manufacturing processes which give them globally unique qualities.

What distinguishes the LIPOSHELL® technology products?

Liposhell ikona

the highest quality and efficiency of the substance encapsulation inside the carrier,

Liposhell ikona

protection against degradation-inducing factors (such as oxygen, gastric juice, digestive enzymes),

Liposhell ikona

high bioavailability of transported substances,

Liposhell ikona

ability to deliver substances specifically to a desired location.

The innovative LIPOSHELL® liposomal technology is inspired by molecular dynamics, which makes it the most modern and efficient method of delivery of active substances in the body.

Use of liposomes4,5

With their unique properties, the liposomes can be used in different areas of science, including:

  • medicine and pharmacy, e.g. in oncology, ophthalmology, dermatology, genetics - as carriers of medications, vitamins or minerals
  • dermocosmetology and cosmetology
